What is Hydroseeding?

A specially prepared mix of grass seed, fertiliser, mulch, tackifier, and water is sprayed evenly over the soil, forming a protective layer that promotes quick germination and strong root growth.

If your site is already prepared, we can simply come in and hydroseed the area. Alternatively, we can take care of everything from start to finish, including clearing, levelling and seed bed preparation, ensuring the ground is ready for the best possible establishment of your new lawn.

When to hydroseed a new lawn?

Early autumn is generally one of the best times to hydroseed. Soil temperatures are still warm, there is usually more moisture available and weed pressure is lower. This gives new grass the opportunity to develop a stronger root system before the warmer, drier months arrive, helping create a lawn that is better prepared for spring and summer conditions.

Spring hydroseeding can also produce good results, with warmer temperatures often encouraging fast germination and early growth. However, lawns established at this time may require more attention through summer particularly if root development is still relatively shallow or weeds and unwanted grasses begin competing for space. Regular watering and closer monitoring can help support the lawn while it becomes established.

Site preparation is just as important as choosing the right time to hydroseed. Any problems with soil quality, drainage or the existing lawn should be addressed beforehand, and the ground should be properly prepared before seed is applied. A well-prepared surface helps create an even finish and supports consistent, healthy growth across the lawn over time.

We can hydroseed almost any bank, large or small, including those made of clay, papa mud, or sandstone. Seed is selected to suit the specific conditions, and additional products are included in the mix to increase tackiness, helping the mulch adhere securely to the surface and resist displacement during establishment – giving your bank the best chance of achieving strong, even coverage.

Slips and Erosion Control

Every site is different when it comes to erosion and slips, and the right combination of products is often needed to achieve effective stabilisation.

To control erosion quickly and cost-effectively, we use Flexterra®, which contains advanced tackifiers that bond directly to the soil. This stabilises exposed surfaces immediately and supports vegetation, establishing up to eight times faster than on untreated ground.

ProGanics™ Biotic Soil Media™ is a topsoil alternative designed to accelerate the development of depleted soils and difficult substrates. It can be applied over almost any surface, supplying organic matter and improving growing conditions where topsoil is limited or unavailable.

Used together, ProGanics™ and Flexterra® provide immediate surface protection while creating ideal conditions for rapid vegetation establishment and long-term erosion control.
