About Hydroseeding

Hydroseeding is the process of spraying a mixture of grass seed, fertiliser, biodegradable mulch, and water onto a prepared surface. It is suitable for residential and commercial lawns, roadsides, and banks, and is also effective for controlling dust and erosion. Even challenging soil types can be successfully hydroseeded.

Read on to discover how hydroseeding could work for your property.

Lawns

Hydroseeding is a cost-effective way to establish a new lawn over larger areas. We use a premium blend of Dwarf Rye and Fine Fescue in our hydroseed mix, or we can apply a blend of your choice. The sprayed-on mulch bonds to the prepared soil, helping it withstand wind and rainfall. Combined with fertiliser, the mulch creates an ideal environment for the seed to germinate and grow.

Pricing:

For lawn areas of 300m² or larger: $4.00/m² (excluding GST)

For lawn areas less than 300m²: $1,200.00 (excluding GST)

A travel charge of $3.00/km (excluding GST) applies to sites outside the New Plymouth, Bell Block, and Waitara urban areas.

Banks

We can hydroseed almost any bank, large or small, including those made of clay, papa mud, or sandstone. The seed is selected to suit the application, and extra products are added to the mix to increase tackiness, ensuring it adheres well to the surface.

Pricing:

For banks 600m² or larger: $2.00/m² (excluding GST)

For banks less than 600m²: $1,200.00 (excluding GST)

A travel charge of $3.00/km (excluding GST) applies to sites outside the New Plymouth, Bell Block, and Waitara urban areas.

Roadsides

We hydroseed roadsides and roadside banks for civil contractors, either following the construction of new roads or after road alterations or repairs. Our mix contains a high rate of seed to ensure good coverage, and we can handle very large areas with ease.

    Dust Control

Dust can create problems on construction sites and poses a health and safety risk. It can also lead to complaints from neighbours and passersby, or even result in abatement notices from the local authority. Using our hydroseeding unit, we apply a slurry that forms a protective cap over the ground, helping to prevent windblown dust.

    Landfills

Hydroseeding can be used as an alternative daily cover for landfills. By applying a blend of specially selected polymers, the mix adheres well to the tip face, helping to seal off odours and keep vermin out. Because hydroseeding applies only a thin cover layer, it helps prolong the life of the landfill compared to using a traditional soil layer.

    Slips and Erosion Control

Every site is different when it comes to erosion and slips, and a range of products may be required. To control erosion quickly and cost-effectively, we use Flexterra®, which contains superior tackifiers that bond directly to the soil upon application. This allows vegetation to establish up to eight times faster than on bare soil.

ProGanics™ Biotic Soil Media™ is a topsoil alternative that accelerates the development of depleted soils or substrates. It can be sprayed over any type of soil, providing an abundant source of organic matter where topsoil is not available.

When ProGanics™ and Flexterra® are used together, they provide unmatched ability to immediately control erosion and establish vegetation rapidly.
